Description

This gadget is used in conjunction with the Health Manager gadget to inflict damage or restore health. It can do this either by direct contact or via a zone of effect. By tweaking the labels on the Health Modifier and the object it is affecting you can choose to selectively apply the effect to some things but not others – for instance you might be happy for fire monsters to walk unaffected on burning ground but not the main player character.

Example Tutorial (adapted from Media Molecule)

  1. Stamp a cube.
  2. Snap a health manager and a destroyer onto it.
  3. Stamp a sphere above the cube.
  4. Set the sphere to movable so that it will fall onto the cube.
  5. Leave the health gadget tweaks as their default values.
The manager has a current health of 100, the modifier is set to impact and to remove 100 health with one hit.
  6. Activate the destroyer by connecting the no health output on the health manager to the power port on the destroyer.
  7. Hit start time.

  4. Modifier Type

  6. Power

  2. Modify Amount
Use this to determine the amount of damage (negative values) or healing (positive values) each action of this Health Modifier will impart. The value corresponds directly to the value in the corresponding Health Manager’s Current Health (though damage will not take current health below zero, nor will healing exceed the maximum health).
  3. Modifier Mode
    • Per Hit
Select this option if you want the damage (or healing) to be imparted with each separate contact between the object with the Health Modifier (or its zone) and the object with the Health Manager – for example for hammers against players and baddies or a “heart” pickup in a platform game.
    • Continuous
Select this option if you want the damage (or healing) to keep on being applied as long as there is contact between the object with the Health Modifier and the object with the Health Manager – for example a jet of super-heated steam, a choking fog.
  4. Modifier Type
    • Impact
Select this option if you want the modification to take place from direct contact between the Health Modifier object and any corresponding object with a Health Manager.
    • Zone
Select this option if you want the modification to take place when a corresponding object with a Health Manager enters a certain zone of effectiveness – the settings for which can be set on the Zone Properties tweak menu page.
  5. Consider Players
By default, the Health Modifier has no specific player information when in changes the values of Health Managers. Activating this will ensure that certain outputs carry information about which player was responsible, which can be useful for separate scoring, or reflected damage for example.
  6. Power
This is where you turn the gadget on/off

  5.  Power

These options are available if the Modifier Type is set to Zone (Tweak Menu Page 1: Properties).

  • Menu page indicator
  • Zone Shape
Choose the shape of the trigger zone for this gadget from one of six options including whole scene:

    • Sphere
    • Cube
    • Cylinder
    • Cone
    • Ellipse
    • Whole Scene
  • Zone Size
Determine the X, Y and Z size of the zone (where applicable). The edges of the zone can also be dragged directly in the scene itself.
  • Zone Falloff
Determine the X, Y and Z size of the falloff area outside the zone.  This increases the gadget’s modification effect from zero to the full Modify Amount as you move through the falloff zone from its outer edge towards the actual zone
  • Power

  3. Match Mode
    • Any (find objects that match any of the below labels, can match any or all)
    • All (find objects that have all the below labels (must match all) (unlabelled is deselected)
  4. Detect Labels
These labels can be set in each object, element or group or shape and can be used to determine actions that apply to only a certain sort of object. For example you may wish to only detect foes (enemies) and ignore friends and only inflict health damage on the foes.

    • Friend
    • Foe
    • Scenery

  3. Affected Object(s)
By default, the Health Modifier gadget automatically applies to any object that it is snapped onto, for the purposes of impact detection. By connecting this input port to one or more objects, you can instead make it apply to any other element in your scene.
  4. Power
This is where you turn the gadget on/off
