Gamejam Analysis

I have analysed the Gamejam entries from Beta through to Feb 2020. Each gamejam has had the numbers counted, how many were not to the theme, and how many were unreasonably poor (empty, made by trolls).

The results were not as I expected.

Firstly, the amount of levels entered that did not fit the theme were surprisingly low for most of the jams. The exception being SuMmer Festival, which did not translate very well outside the UK, and many entries were not relevant to the SuMmer music festival theme due to a complete misunderstanding of the theme. Most not on theme entries tended to be entries for the previous jam, so not intentional. However more “highbrow” themes tended to attract more non relevant entries (such as Theatre, Classic Novels, Night or Day at the Museum).

Unreasonably poor entries (which I deemed to be levels in which a smear of shapes, a single shape or an empty level were entered) are not prevalent.

The amount of entries into the gamejam are not related to the number of Dreamers playing Dreams. You would have suspected as more Dreamers bought the game, more entries, but that did not show in the data. Interest in the Gamejam seems to be related more to the theme. There is a definite drop off of interest at the end of Early Access in participating.
