Description

This gadget is used to turn an object to face in the direction it is moving. Its relative simplicity means you can’t specify an orientation, but it’s great for projectiles such as arrows, so they always keep the pointy end up front. You define the direction that your object prefers to face using a gizmo handle.

Example Tutorial (adapted from Media Molecule)

  1. Stamp a cone
  2. Stamp an emitter
  3. Tweak the emitter and select the cone as the object to emit
  4. Set the time between emits to 0.5s
  5. Tweak the emitter gizmo to a 45 degree angle
  6. Hit start time
  7. The cone is emitted and points straight up.
  8. Rewind.
  9. Snap a rocket rotator to the cone.
  10. Tweak the rotation strength to 100%.
  11. Move the gizmo arrow to point in line with the pointy end of the cone.
  12. Hit start time.
  13. This time the cone comes out pointy end first more like a rocket or bullet.

  2. Rotation SpeedĀ
This is where you can specify the target rotation speed in degrees per second.
  3. Stay Upright
By activating this option, you can force the affected object to stay upright as it moves.
  4. Rotation Strength
This is where you specify the strength of the gadget’s ability to rotate the affected object. High strength will make the rotation reach its target speed (and therefore its target orientation) much faster.
  5. Overall Damping
This is where you specify the amount of rotational damping that the gadget imparts to resist rotations. High rotational damping makes it harder to turn the affected object but makes movement more precise.
  6. Power
This is where you turn the gadget on/off
Tweak Menu 2: Damping Specifics

  1. Menu page indicator
  2. Strength in X
Use this to determine the strength of rotational damping about the x axis.
  3. Strength in Y
Use this to determine the strength of rotational damping about the y axis.
  4. Strength in Z
Use this to determine the strength of rotational damping about the z axis.
  5. Power
This is where you turn the gadget on/off
Tweak Menu 3: Outputs

  2. Affected Object(s)
By default, the Rocket Rotator gadget will directly affect any object that it is snapped onto. Instead of snapping it down, you can connect one or more wires from this output to any number of elements in your scene and each one will be affected by this gadget.
  3. Power
This is where you turn the gadget on/off
